PENNY FOR THE TRAM, CRICH TRAM MUSUEM

Saturday 19th May 2018

In the period after the Second World War, most of the remaining British tramways were in decline or actually closing. This is when the first event in the history of the National Tramway Museum took place. A group of enthusiasts on a farewell tour of Southampton Tramways August 1948, decided to purchase one of the open top trams on which they had ridden. For the sum of £10 they purchased Tram number 45 – now included in the collection at the Museum.

From this purchase grew the idea of a working museum devoted to operating tramcars. From the original group developed the Tramway Museum Society, established in 1955. Upon arrival at Crich Tramway Village you will receive an old fashioned 1d which you will exchange for your tram ticket, allowing you unlimited travel on any of the working tramcars during your visit. Catch the next tram from the entrance to ‘Town End’, the hub of the village. Use your ticket for unlimited tram rides between ‘Town End’ and ‘Glory Mine’.

There will be time to visit the workshops, exhibitions and shops before your two-course lunch, included in the package. We end our day at the nearby picturesque town of Bakewell to taste the famous Bakewell Pudding in The Original Bakewell Pudding Shop. You will have time to explore the quaint shops and historic streets before boarding the coach for the journey home.

* Price includes guide for the day, 2 course lunch, entrance to Crich Tramway Museum, unlimited tram rides & coach travel)
